What are the qualifications?

You must meet the minimum level of the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in either English or French in speaking, reading, listening, writing.

Proof of settlement funds.

Settle anywhere except Quebec.

Pass security and medical clearances.

Proof of support for your business by an approved Canadian office.

Proof business meets ownership requirements.

Up to 5 foreign nationals as partners allowed.

What is the investment option?

To apply for the Start-up Visa Program, your business proposal or venture should be supported by one or more of the designated organizations listed below:

 

  • Venture capital funds with a minimum investment of CAD 200,000. 
  • Angel investor groups with a minimum investment of CAD 75,000.
  • Business incubators (does not require funding commitment).

Designated organizations are business groups, approved by the Canadian government to invest in or support the investors interested to migrate by the Start-up Visa Program. These organizations review the proposals with their own way of process and criteria to assess them. What are the qualifications?

Language – Maximum 28 points. The points you are awarded are based on the results of approved language testing in English and/or French.

Education – Maximum 25 points. The points you are awarded are based on the outcome of an approved education evaluation office in Canada.

Work Experience – Maximum 15 points. The points you are awarded are based on your profession and the number of years you have been employed.

Age – Maximum 12 points. Those applicants between the age of 18 and 35 receive the maximum points, with 1 point lost for each year past 35.

What are immigration options?

Federal Skilled Worker Program

The program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.

Evaluation of your application based on:

  • Age.
  • Education.
  • Work experience.
  • Whether you have a valid job offer.
  • English and/or French language skills.
  • Adaptability.

These factors are part of a 100-point grid used to assess eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. You earn points for how well you do in each of the 6 factors. The current pass mark is 67 points.

What is skilled work experience?

Skilled Work Experience means that you have worked in 1 of these National Occupational Classification (NOC) job groups: Managerial jobs, Professional jobs or Technical jobs, and skilled trades.

You must show that while working in your primary occupation, you performed the duties set out in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC. This includes all the essential duties and most of the main duties listed.

Your skilled work experience must be in the same type of job within the last 10 years it should be paid work and at least 1 year of continuous work.

What is the education requirement?

If you went to school in Canada, you must have a certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian.

If you have foreign education, you must have a completed credential, and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for immigration purposes from a designated organization showing that your education is equal to a completed certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian.

What is the language ability requirement?

You must take approved language tests in English or French for, writing, reading, listening, and speaking and get a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all 4 abilities.

Your language tests are valid for 2 years after the date of the test result. They must be valid on the day you apply for permanent residence.

Federal Skilled Trades Program

The program is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade. Minimum requirements:

  • Skilled work experience.
  • Education.
  • Language ability.

What is skilled work experience?

Skilled trades for the Federal Skilled Trades Program are organized under these groups of the National Occupational Classification (NOC):

  • Industrial, electrical, and construction trades.
  • Maintenance and equipment operation trades.
  • Supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture, and related production.
  • Processing, manufacturing, and utility supervisors and central control operators.
  • Chefs and cooks.
  • Butchers and bakers.

What is the education requirement?

There is no education requirement for the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

What is the language ability requirement?

Meet the minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark 5 for speaking, listening, and 4 for reading and writing.
